Homestay Immersion & Camp

Xplore’s first traditional US Summer Camp combined with total immersion homestay programme

Nestled in the Pikes Peak region of the Rocky Mountains, approximately 1.5 hour drive from Denver International Airport. This is a traditional all-American summer camp in the mountains who have only recently begun welcoming international teenagers exclusively through Xplore.

Why choose a Homestay Immersion + Camp?

For more confident travellers, try our Homestay Imm – total immersion with a host family combined with an authentic American Summer Camp with US teenagers. This programme is a very special summer travel experience for those who are confident with their English.

Each day at camp is action-packed with activities campers have chosen based on their interests. Our days are usually dedicated to pursuits like archery, kayaking, swimming at the waterfront, orienteering, arts and crafts and Ga-Ga ball – just to name a few.

The other half of this programme offers a homestay experience of authentic ‘American life’ with a local host family in the wider Denver area. Living with a host family involves being totally immersed in family life and provides an excellent opportunity to utilise your English language skills constantly.

This programme is perfect for those with excellent English language skills and confident to be communicating in English for the whole programme. It is a unique opportunity to spend the summer as an American teen and will make for a very special summer study travel experience.

What is included?

Here is a list of the main elements included in the camp, please use our table below for more detail:

  • Airport transfers when students arrive / depart at specified times
  • Shared dorm accommodation
  • Daily activities on-site
  • Full board (special diets can be catered for on request)
  • 24-hour emergency number and supervision
  • Endsleigh Travel Insurance

English & Activities

There are no organised English language lessons at Camp as this is a typical American teen summer camp and during the homestay section, visiting teenagers are completely immersed in family life.

We recommend that those interested in this programme are confident in communicating in English so that you are able to understand activity instruction and able to communicate comfortably with camp staff, other campers and your host family.

The benefit of being at camp is that everything is on-site and at this summer camp there is a wide range of activities to be involved with. From exploring the local mountains with hiking, camping, trail rides, fishing, creek stomping, and swimming to more traditional activities, such as archery, arts and crafts, drama, slingshots, a ropes course, climbing wall and zip wire. There are also a selection of sports that campers like to play, such as basketball, volleyball, Ga-Ga ball, and kickball. All of the activities are counsellor-led and designed to give every camper the opportunity to learn new skills, build self-confidence and develop leadership.

In the evening, there is of course storytelling around the campfire, as well as roasting s’mores. We also enjoy night hikes and astronomy, being surrounded by such a spectacular mountain landscape. During your homestay, your host family will share with you their summer break activities – from mall shopping to cinema, walks and backyard barbecues, you will feel right at home and like one of the locals

Lodging will vary slightly depending on age. As campers get older, they will typically progress from modern cabins with attached washrooms to more rustic wooden cabins which are a short walk from the washrooms to the true camping experience of living in a tent platform. Cabins usually have between 8-10 bed per lodge and as this is usually an all-American camp, international students will be integrated well with native teenagers. During your homestay section of the programme, visiting teenagers may share a room with a host family sibling of a similar age and same gender or may have their own room. If you have any special requirements or would like to request to share with a friend, we will try to accommodate you, just let us know in advance.

We encourage our students to be open-minded and to share with their family local cuisines from their country during their stay.

Care and Supervision

Camp staff are responsible for the pastoral care of all students whilst at camp, however a team of Xplore staff will be available during the whole programme. They will introduce themselves at the airport and can be contacted or seen at any if needed using the contact information provided prior to arrival.

All camp staff go through a comprehensive interview and training programme which include activity certification, behaviour management, bullying prevention and homesickness, as well as being CPR/First Aid/AED and O2 certified. All Xplore host families have undergone an in-depth application process which includes a personal interview and in-home inspection. We also conduct a criminal background investigation and hold specific training covering cultural differences and importance of communication while hosting and an orientation with our local staff.

International Camp

Our camps are available to children from all over the world.

Integration and immersion is central to how we operate as an organisation, and we encourage programmes that promote integration between different nationalities and cultures. The camp have only recently begun welcoming international teenagers exclusively through Xplore so there will a low number of other international students at camp and during the homestay part of this programme, integration is with your American host family only.
