English Plus Horse Riding
Combine your love of horses with your enthusiasm to learn a new language!
Our English Plus Horse Riding camp is perfect for students who have a love of horses and would like to improve their stable knowledge and riding ability alongside developing their English language skills with other riders.
This 2-week course is suitable for all both beginner and more advanced riders, however we would recommend students to have some experience of being around horses.
At the beginning of the course, all students’ riding will be assessed and from there our qualified instructors will go on to teach the equestrian disciplines of show jumping and dressage. During the course, students will also learn an introduction to stable management and how to safely handle the horse, including securely tying up, leading, grooming, tacking up and feeding.
When our Horse Riding students are not at the stables, you will be at Camp Finborough for your fun and interactive English lessons or enjoying one of 3 excursions to London or a local town or attraction.
At the end of the 2-weeks, our riders will have the opportunity to show off new skills with a ‘Dressage and Show Jumping competition and rosettes will be awards. Students should have a much better understanding of equestrian care and stable management and will have improved their riding ability.

A1 – B1 on CEFR Pathway Table
To benefit the most from our English course at Finborough, we recommend that children have at least one year of English experience before coming to camp. We offer a range of levels suitable for age and ability of 10 to 14 year olds ranging from Preliminary (A1) to Intermediate (B1). (link to CEFR page). English lessons at Xplore are totally different to school; firstly our class sizes are small, with a maximum of 12 children per class this allows focused integration with other learners and the teacher. We also make sure to utilise a range of teaching approaches suitable for a range of learners, this makes the classes really interactive and encourages learners to have fun whilst learning which can enhance development. At the end of the 2-week course, learners will complete an examination for the level they have been learning at. We will then receive a certificate from Anglia Examinations, which confirms your English level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference. Classroom learning time per week is 20 hours and our class sizes are same with approximately 16 students per teacher. For students achieving a pass grade or higher for B1, they will receive an Ofqual approved certificate through Anglia Examinations partnership with AIM Awards.
During the 2-week programme, our staff will take all our campers on 3 organised day trip excursions.
These fully supervised trips are the perfect way to spend the day off-campus with new friends – from day trips to big cities such London, Cambridge or Norwich to having a wild time on all the rides at the local theme park; Pleasurewood Hills. (3 excursions during 2-week programme – Wednesday, Saturday, Wednesday)
Care and Supervision
Camp Finborough is surrounded by English countryside so our pre-teen campers will feel right at home with everything they need on-site. Xplore Camp Leaders are responsible for the pastoral care of all the children in our care and ensure that each child is sleeping well, eating well, joining in, making friends and having a great time. During free time, children are able to play and explore the campus with friends, whilst being supervised by their house parents.
Our camps are available to children from all over the world. Integration and immersion is central to how we operate as an organisation, and by encouraging lots of social interaction between different cultures and creating a diverse international community at camp, it can really develop every child’s self-confidence in communicating with others.
